Before the First Day of Teaching

UWP Syllabi Guidelines  Determine what information should be included in your syllabus, especially in terms of program policies.

Class Schedule and Registration Guide  Check which classes are offered for the quarter, review the registration process (how, where, and when students enroll in courses and pay fees), and find important quarter dates and deadlines in the Academic Calendar for the regular school year and the Summer Sessions calendar for summer sessions.

Traditional (non-computer) Classroom Info  Look up any of the 126 general assignment classrooms on campus to see a picture of the room and check seating capacities as well as media and instructional capabilities.

Campus Map  Find your classroom.

After you check the availability of any of the computer labs, reserve one though Computer Lab Management by emailing lab-reserve@ucdavis.edu or by calling 752-8549.

SmartSite Setup Instructions  Set up a SmartSite for your course and try out a few of the most commonly used tools (Announcements, Resources, Assignments, Drop Box, and so on).

SmartSite  Go to the SmartSite home page and then log onto your SmartSite.

For questions about setting up and using SmartSite, teaching in the computer labs, using technology while teaching in traditional classrooms, or to make an appointment for guidance in teaching with technology, contact the Coordinator for Teaching Writing with Technology, Wrye Sententia, sotoole@ucdavis.edu

Rosters  View or download rosters for your courses.  You can also find roster through MyUCDavis by clicking on the My Classes tab, then Classes I’m Teaching.

Office Hours  Update your office hours on the UWP website.  Review UWP Policies if you've forgotten how many OHs to hold.

Enrollment Procedures  Download and print key information about taking roll on the first day of class, the quarter's drop deadlines, automated wait lists, and giving out PTAs (Permission to Add).

Reserve course materials at the library by submitting the
Reserve Request Form.

Final Exam Schedule  Find the times your final exams are scheduled.

During the Quarter

If you choose to connect to the Class Folders in the computer lab where you teach and upload or download files, you'll first need to install free SFTP client software by following these instructions

Schedule a Class Visit from a Subject Specialist Librarian   Fill out a form requesting that a Subject Specialist Librarian provide instruction tailored to meet the research needs of specific upper-division courses.  You might first look up the Librarian Specialist Librarian for your UWP 104 or 102 course.

Request a Library Book Purchase by contacting the Librarian Subject Specialist in Rhetoric, Roberto Delgadillo rdelgadillo@ucdavis.edu

Writing Ambassadors Program  Help students who are considering becoming educators to intern with a public school teacher.

If you plan to give an in-class final exam in your computer classroom rather than a take-home and you are teaching in a computer classroom, you must contact Computer Lab Management by emailing lab-reserve@ucdavis.edu or by calling 2-8549 with your request for a computer classroom reservation. The information you will need to provide is your course number, section number, final exam date and time, and the computer classroom you are requesting.
